A Galaxy Far, Far Away. The Death Star.

After the destruction of Alderaan, Leia had been taken back to her cell. She had the small satisfaction of knowing she'd sent them on a pointless search for the rebel base, but that was little comfort. Faces flashed through her mind whenever she closed her eyes as she lay on the cold, hard bench. Bail, Breha, Winter. Her heart ached for them and all the people of Alderaan, but she couldn't let herself lose hope. There had to be some way out of here. This wasn't going to be the end.
The cell door slid open, and she pushed herself up as a single stormtrooper stepped into the cell. He stopped and tilted his head, staring at her. "You're even more beautiful than I...."
Great. Torture, her homeworld destroyed, and now they were letting stormtroopers stop by to check her out? "Aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper?" she said, retreating behind sarcasm.
"What? Oh, the uniform," he said, removing the helmet. "I'm Luke Skywalker. I'm here to rescue you."
He barely finished the words before she'd launched herself at him, engulfing him in a hug. She knew that face, well, one that was ten years older. This was her Luke, her twin, the part of her she'd been missing all her life. Of course -- she'd sent the droids to find General Kenobi on Tatooine, and that was where Luke had been raised. Obi-Wan must have collected Luke to come rescue her.
Luke clearly hadn't expected this type of reaction from her, and he had a dazed I'm-getting-hugged-by-a-beautiful-princess look on his face. Right, that had to be taken care of, fast. "This is going to sound insane, but you're my twin brother," she said. "I'll explain more after we get out of here. Where's Obi-Wan?"
"Twin brother?" Luke said, not losing the confused look until she mentioned Obi-Wan. "He's deactivating the tractor beam. We have to get back to the ship."
Leia wasn't going to wait to hear more. She quickly moved through the cell door, only to find the corridor blocked by a Wookiee and another man in a stormtrooper uniform, who were firing down the passageway at more stormtroopers. "Can't get out that way!" the man said.
"It looks like you've managed to cut off our only escape route," Leia agreed readily. "This is a detention area, you know. They don't build them with multiple exits." She had no idea this was her first meeting of her future husband, no idea at all.
Han turned to look her up and down. "Maybe you'd like it back in your cell, Your Highness," he said sarcastically.
The stormtroopers continued to fire on them, and Luke was already playing the protective brother by pulling her against the wall and shielding her with his own body from the energy bolts ricocheting wildly down the corridor. He pulled a transmitter unit from his belt. "C-3PO! C-3PO! Are there any other ways out of the detention area -- anything at all?"
"All systems have been alerted to your presence, sir," came the droid's response. "The main entry seems to be the only way in or out of the cell block. All other information on your section is restricted."
"There isn't any other way out," Luke yelled over the deafening roar of the blaster fire.
"I can't hold them off forever. Now what?" Han said.
"This is some rescue," Leia said, deciding to blame it not on Luke but on Han. "When you came in here, didn't you have a plan for getting out?"
Han nodded toward Luke. "He's the brains, sweetheart."
Luke managed an embarrassed grin and shrugged helplessly. He turned to return fire, but before he could do so, Leia had snatched the blaster from his hand. "Hey!" he protested.
Leia pointed the weapon at the small grate along the wall and fired. Han stared at her. "What the hell are you doing?"
"Somebody has to save our skins," Leia snapped. She darted across the corridor, firing down at the stormtroopers, then tossed the blaster back to Luke. "Into the garbage chute, flyboy!" She dove into the hole. Wherever they ended up had to be better than this, right?
