Room 315, Monday Afternoon

Leia had managed to finish unpacking, if by unpacking one meant shoving most of the gowns her aunts had sent with her under the bed. The more practical clothing was stowed in the closet, along with a few nicer outfits for when she actually wanted to dress up a little. Such as for dates. Of which she had two this week. She'd wasted no time in giving her relatives reasons flail.

At the moment, she was sprawled on her bed, wondering just what she was going to tell her father and Winter (the two totally got different levels of information -- Winter got to hear about the boy roommate and the shirtless boys, for instance) about this place and supposedly long dead Jedi Knights and daughters and nephews from the future. She really needed to get a hold of a student directory and see if she could track down Ben and find out exactly how he was supposed to be her nephew when she didn't have any siblings.

The door was open.

"She said I had a sibling I didn't know about," Leia said cagily. Well, it wasn't exactly the truth, but it had certainly been implied! "And that she would leave the explanation to you. She didn't think it was her place to tell me."

"I'm not sure it's mine, either," Ben tried. "What if telling you now means that you don't meet when you're supposed to?"

"I've already met my daughter from the future," Leia said, crossing her arms. "And she told me who her father is. Any nonsense about keeping timelines unchanged is already impossible."

Ben's face settled into a stubborn expression very much like Leia's own. "What did she say?" he asked.

The training he'd gotten as an interrogator was coming in far too handy.

"She told me her father is Han Solo, who I've never met let alone heard of," Leia said. "And it's only a matter of time before I do know all there is to know about him."

Ben snickered before he could bring himself back under control. She was just so...Leia.

"Maybe you can ask him, then," he said blandly.

He was really just going to get his ass kicked by his aunt if he kept this up, probably.

That would be definitely where he was heading.

"Somehow I doubt he'd know any more than I do at this point," Leia said, eyes narrowing at the snickering. "Maybe you think it's funny to be vague and mysterious at me, but it's beginning to get annoying."

"I'm a Jedi," Ben said with a grin. "We excel at vague and mysterious." He shrugged his shoulder, turning more serious. "And as far as I can tell, I'm from the furthest point in the future of everyone in our galaxy. I don't want to say something that might really screw things up for everyone. And our family? Well, we kind of have a history of screwing things up for everyone."

Hello there, Ben's issues.

"A Jedi?" Leia said, surprised. Jedi in the future was a good sign, but one being related to her was unexpected. "Whose side of the family did you get that from?"

Ben was quiet for a second, weighing options. "Both," he finally admitted.

Just when she thought things couldn't get more interesting. For a minute she was almost speechless. "My brother or sister is a Jedi?" she finally said.

"Eventually," Ben said. "Not when you are, I'd imagine. The Empire sort of frowns on that kind of training."

Somehow it had been easier to accept that she had a daughter when Jaina had been standing in front of her than it was believing that her parents had hidden the truth of a sibling from her all these years. Unless they didn't know, either? "Brother or sister?" she asked quietly.

And it was hard keeping things from her. "Brother," he said finally. "Twin brother."

"Twin?" Leia exclaimed. "Why didn't my parents tell me?" They had to have known that.

"You can figure it out," Ben said quietly. "Think it through."

And that way his grandfather couldn't kick his ass for explaining it. Win-win!

He expected her to be able to think at a time like this? But she tried.

"Because he is a Jedi," she said slowly. "He had to be hidden or else he'd be killed. But I'm his sister! I deserved to know." She looked Ben straight in the eyes. "Were our parents Jedi? Is that what happened to them?" The timing made total sense; she'd been born right at the time Palpatine had declared them traitors of the former Republic.

Ben had been trained to lie with a straight face, and he was treading into some serious quicksand here.

He nodded. There was no point in denying it, after all. She'd hear his last name eventually.

As if she didn't hate the Empire enough already; now she was adding killing her birth parents to the list. "Your father -- my brother -- obviously he was kept safe," she said, head spinning. "He's still all right? In your time? And I know him?"

"You finish each other's sentences," Ben said, smiling softly. "You're best friends. That's why I don't want to mess this up. If I say something and you don't meet up like you should, or don't get along..."

Now she knew why it always felt like there'd been a piece of herself missing. "He's my brother," she said. "Even if he didn't grow up pulling my hair. It doesn't matter when we finally meet. That would never change."

"Well, he doesn't try it now," Ben said. "He's all old and mature and stuff."

[likes_scoundrels]

"Which would make me just as old," Leia said with a soft smile. "And a mother."

She'd totally be flailing later. When she was alone and no one else could see.

"Really old," Ben teased. "Jaina's thirty there."

"Wait -- the Jaina here isn't your Jaina?" Leia said. "Just how many different timelines are we talking about here?"
